Welcome to Clay-Arts LLC

A place for Learning and a place for Cyber-Marketing

Through the vision of Larry Ortiz, artist and educator, Clay Arts has become a community of ceramicists in a life-long cycle of learning, collaborating, and experimenting in clay and fire.

A Learning Place: Classes are held in our workshop in the beautiful Gold Rush era town of Auburn, California, as well as at our North Auburn Studio. Instruction is available through Placer School for Adults classes as well as in private group sessions and in work-shop sessions. Classes offered range from school age children through senior adults. Please see our Calendar and Class Descriptions pages. All classes embrace the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi; that imperfection adds to the aesthetic appeal and the artistís understanding of the creative process. Learning opportunities also include gatherings, such as pit firings, Raku firings, demonstrations, and shows.

The essence of Clay Arts is of a welcoming community of ceramicists at all levels of aspiration and ability.

A Cyber-Market Place: Our clay artistís interests range from sculpture, to pottery that may be wheel thrown, hand built, slip molded or a hybrid. Influences range from Asian to Mexican, Reggae to Graffiti, and Traditional to Fantasy. Our pieces are all individually glazed in a variety of methods including pit firing, salt firing, wood firing, Raku, and traditional high fire. Pieces range from statement sized decorative urns and statues to functional individual platters and household sets. These are photographed and described on our Market Place pages. We encourage you to visit often as our inventory changes as our artisans produce new wares.
